Ahh yes, classic.

The original song is awesome. But this song... This song is amazing.
Such epic atmospherics. I think you should release an ambient version and a version with a beat. So interesting. Keep up the good work man. Finish it!

Not repetitive at all, great transitions.
I especially loved the drum beats you created.

My absolute favorite part of the song was the breakdown from 3:09 - 3:37.

Hmm.

This gets the point across, and is absolutely fitting for a background theme in a movie. But, as you were probably put under a time constraint when making this song, it lacks a little bit in the overall quality.

Things that I noticed:

- All of the elements are at the same volume
...There really is no outstanding element that catches your attention enough to make this song as emotionally evocative as your other works.

- The song feels forced:
...What I mean by this is that each melody feels too individual. The overall whole of the song lacks a bit of that harmony that the ear craves when listening to a good classical tune.

- Different instrumentaton:
...The instruments seem a bit too generic. Maybe a different piano, the keys seem to be lacking the power that the song is trying to portray. There also needs to be some instrument that stands out (at a higher volume or pitch) that brings interest into the song.

Okay now that we are done with that, lets move on to the positives:

- The Pads/Chorus/Voices:
...As usual, your chorus and vocal instrumentation and melodic ideas are wonderful. It evokes great visuals and makes you feel expressive and creative.

- Break at 0:55
...This part I thoroughly enjoyed, this is what made up for the lack of fire in the introduction. This element of the song is almost a peak point for interest, though it still feels like there should be something else. Like maybe some high pitched violins flying in with surround sound aspects, and maybe minor panning, while harmonizing with the piano. That would completely make the piece, and add the interest and volume/pitch change that the song needs. The violins would have to have some sort of metallic or "shiny" aspect to them if you know what I mean... Some sort of sparkle. The song is a bit muddy, and that would bring it out from under the water.

- Talented melodic work:
...The piano melody was great. It sounded improvised in some areas, but that is what I like about it. Everything still works, even without that pre-planned feel to it.

Anyways, sorry this was a bit harsh, but I see so much potential in this song, I think you should go back and completely re-work it :).

Must agree fully with what you said:

The lack of volume tweaking makes it pretty flat... there's no true spacial aspect (except for the piano reeverb).

"The song feels forced": I understand perfectly what you mean. There's no "fluidity" in the structure so-to-speak. The melody seems confined in a predictable set of notes: There's no true element of surprise.

The generic choice of instruments was due to the fact that this was actually a scrap-project: I came up with an interesting melody and I just parked it there without giving it too much thought.

You weren't harsh at all. Thanks for letting me know.

It's funny you say that haha. I do the same thing when posting my songs, I most of them under the miscellaneous category to avoid the same misconceptions. (THIS ISN'T TECHNO! WTFBQQ ASSHOLE -zero bomb-) You get the picture.

Anyways on to the song. I absolutely love this freeform stuff. I always have. Reminds me a bit of Carbon Based Lifeform's more upbeat tunes. And this song in particular gives me that very retrospective almost melancholy feel. Great emotional stuff.

I can't really make any true criticisms because I am listening to this song via laptop speakers right now so really I have no basis upon which to judge quality, but, if my years of musical engineering experience serve me at all, I would say that all of the elements in this song are relatively balanced and serve their purpose individually very well. Not to much over-mastering of the song it self, but more individual instrumental mastering that I always love to hear. It really increases the quality of the mix.

I could see this song being open for many remix styles, such as trance, dnb, or even a crazy synthy dubstep remix. Maybe I could work on this a bit, I really like it :).

Great experimental spontaneity.

Well, I've been listening to your music since the creation ofWinter Chill--_-- on a few different accounts till I settled on this one.
And I've got to say, I've enjoyed a lot of your songs, some of my favorites over the years have been the Shaman Series, Skull Shatter, Unity, Wretched, Cordon Bleu, and Odylic Force (final version).

But this... Oh this, wow.
This is probably my favorite bassline so far out of every song I've heard in the span of my lifetime (at 2:02 when it follows the pitch modulated synth). And my library has 56,000 songs ranging from progressive/electro house -> Dnb -> Dubstep -> Ambient -> Everything.
Wonderful, exquisite, absolute and any other adjective that could describe this songs immense take over and penetration of my brain stem.

I honestly really didn't expect that at all, I had to listen to the song a few times before I was actually able to compose a review in my head. I really like this song a lot. I know the main purpose was to test the guitar and such, but I gotta say I really loved the vibe at the beginning of the song the most. The guitar was a great variation though, I think it should be split into 2 separate songs haha. Anyways, there was only one problem, and literally only one... When both guitars were playing at once, even though they were panned appropriately, they were playing at almost the same volume, creating an unpleasant harmonic that muddied out the background synths and drums, I would suggest adding some sort of mild sidechain or remastering the guitars.

Anyways, before I go, I have to tell you a real quick story about the introduction to this song.

Okay, so I'm extremely tired because I just got off of work and I'm a little tipsy, so that may explain my vision a little bit. But anyways, when the song was introduced it brought me way back into my childhood to a wonderful memory I had with my dad. We were in the back yard, and both had built snow forts, and had stashes of snowballs, and were having a snowball fight, then the entire neighborhood joined in and we had a giant snowball fight war. <-- major run on sentence lololol.

The subtheme also could be a child growing up (the synths representing youth, and the guitars representing the aging process.)

Interesting point of view of the song: Definitely unexpected ^__^.

About the harmonics overlapping, I didn't notice that kind of problem, but that's probably because I'm listening to the instruments with my head more than with my ears (I swear I'm not crazy ^__^).

Anyway, I tried to experiment with some side-chaining as you said, but the results were terrible. Forgive my ignorance, but by "mild sidechain", was I supposed to use the peak controller with the lead guitar and link the other guitar's volume to it or do something else?

P.S. Actually the "vibe" was also part of the Guitar Rig experiment since I used the modified effects of the Vst to completely modify a basic FL Keys piano. Man do I love Native Instruments ^__^.

This really reminded me of Prehistoric Platformer. Same pads maybe? Anyways, It most definitely brought back memories of old NES videogames and memories of my childhood :P.

Yeah, the pads are similar, but not quite the same ones.

I think that it's no-ones style really ^__^. It was meant to be played during the credits or something like that (I also extended this version, but it's nothing special so avoided spamming NG some more).

Hmm.

Great intro.
My feeling is that this song should have stayed as an ambient track. Though I understand the feeling you were going for, it just relaxed me so much at the beginning of the song I didn't want to the song to end. Then when the trancey stuff came it in kind of woke me up from my pleasant slumber.
Maybe make a version 2? Just ambience? Just for me? :).
